St Patrick’s day is a celebration of Irish conversion to Christianity that has become an iconic trend around the globe. For the third year running, the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, will have its town hall lit up green this evening. If you’re looking down at the world from above, you’ll notice major cities like Sydney, New York, and Paris will also light up their most renowned monuments.

It’s no surprise that Cyprus is a predominantly Christian island, with 78% of its population being Greek Orthodox followers. Beautifully designed churches and monasteries are scattered across Cyprus, many being part of the UNESCO world heritage list.

But the celebration isn’t heavily concentrated on religion. St Patrick’s day events, parades, and parties are anticipated annually. In fact, Limassol already caught a glimpse of the St Patrick float earlier this month in the carnival parade.

Today, let’s pay tribute to St Patrick and Ireland. Time to show off your best green attire and drink a pint of Guinness!
